Bicycles and Trails:
Bicycles are a fun & healthy way to get around. They're efficient and quiet. It’s great to see this active transportation gaining popularity in Whitehorse. We urge mountain bikers to ride in ways that minimize trail erosion. The 2014 revised Bicycle Bylaw will help ensure safety for all trail users.
Reminder: Cyclists must yield the right of way to pedestrians on trails and sidewalks.
Quote from the Bicycle Bylaw:
13. A person operating a bicycle on a trail or on a sidewalk as permitted in section 8 of this bylaw shall:
(1) yield the right of way to pedestrians;
(2) exercise due care and attention to avoid colliding with any other trail or sidewalk user;
(3) exercise reasonable consideration for any other trail or sidewalk user;
(4) slow down and pass other trail and sidewalk users in a safe manner,

Safety tips for riding the Millennium Trail:
Safety tips for riding the Millennium Trail:
- The Millennium Trail is extremely popular. There are times when it is crowded with pedestrians. At such times, it's safer to get off one's bicycle and push it past the crowd.
- When approaching other users, ride single file, slow down, and make a sound signal.
- There are many blind corners along the Millennium Trail. When approaching a corner, slow down and ride single file.
- There are 5 gates along the Millennium Trail, and they’re not wide enough for 2-way traffic. Yield to other users at these gates.
- Remember: pedestrians have the right of way (including walkers, snowshoers, skiers, wheelchair users, etc).
- Avoid using bicycle trailers wider than a wheelchair (standard width: 30 inches = 76 cm.)
